Private golf in North Scottsdale, read through the home.

A buyer’s guide to how a house, the desert around it and an everyday golf life fit together. It is a resource for understanding, not an advertisement for any club.

Fictional North Scottsdale desert golf course at golden hour

From Nick

I grew up around the game.

I am a low-handicap golfer who grew up playing tournament golf. That background shapes how I look at a home near a course: I notice the character of the golf, the culture around practice, the pace of play, the atmosphere among members, and what the residential setting feels like day to day.

My role is to help you compare that residential and lifestyle context and to coordinate the due diligence around a purchase. Each club controls its own membership, process and terms. I have no say in admissions and cannot promise an introduction, an approval or access of any kind.

Use this page as a map for your own questions, then verify everything directly with the club.

Compare by category

The membership key.

Each club below carries one of these categories. They describe how membership and homes relate, not which club is better.

Ownership-linked / required
Owning property in the specified community carries membership or participation obligations. Confirm the governing documents, current rules and which privileges are included; country-club participation and golf membership can be different.
Property-specific opportunity
A membership opportunity may accompany a specific resale, subject to the club’s process and approval. It is not a benefit of every home in the community and must be confirmed in writing.
Separate from home ownership
The club expressly separates membership from property ownership. Buying a nearby home is not a membership transaction; applications, transfers and approval remain separate.
Invitation / sponsorship
Admission follows an invitation or sponsorship process. A home purchase does not replace that process or imply approval, access or an introduction.
Verify with the club
Current membership availability or the property relationship is not fully stated in the public source. Ask the club and review listing documents; do not infer a transferable membership from homes near a course.

Twelve principal private clubs

North Scottsdale.

Presented alphabetically, not ranked. Read each as a setting: the course, how membership is structured, and how a home relates to the club. See also the North Scottsdale guide.

01

Ancala Country Club

Scottsdale, in the McDowell Mountain foothills.

Course
An 18-hole, par-72 championship course designed by Perry Dye, with desert terrain and a practice complex described by the club.
Membership
The official club operator describes Golf, Sports and Social memberships. These public category descriptions do not confirm current availability, eligibility or access. Confirm current status, category privileges and all terms directly and privately with the club before proceeding.

Connection to the home
Do not assume that a home in the Ancala area conveys club membership. Obtain written confirmation from the club and the specific listing documents of any proposed membership opportunity, transfer conditions, approval requirements and separate obligations.

02

Desert Highlands

Desert Highlands, at the foot of Pinnacle Peak.

Course
Jack Nicklaus Signature 18-hole desert course, with a separate Gary Panks-designed putting course.
Membership
The club states that membership is tied to property ownership and begins with the home purchase. This is an ownership-linked community model, not a general promise of membership at nearby clubs.

Connection to the home
Ownership-linked membership: review the applicable property documents and confirm current fees, obligations and rules directly with Desert Highlands before committing to a purchase.

Ownership-linked / required

03

Desert Mountain

Northern Scottsdale; Desert Mountain and Seven Desert Mountain.

Course
Six Jack Nicklaus-designed courses and the par-54 No. 7 course create a multi-course desert golf setting.
Membership
Applications are accepted in conjunction with a home purchase. Access depends on the specific property, membership category and club approval. Seven’s reserved Full Golf, Seven Golf and Lifestyle categories follow the club’s own process.

Connection to the home
A specific resale may offer a membership opportunity, subject to club approval; do not assume every listing does. Seven Desert Mountain properties are deed-restricted to require membership. The club requires its application and approval process to be coordinated with the purchase and escrow; ownership alone does not guarantee approval.

Property-specific opportunity

04

Estancia Club

The Estancia community on the northern side of Pinnacle Peak.

Course
Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole course; the club describes desert elevation changes and a caddie program.
Membership
Estancia is a private, member-owned club. With certain Estancia home sales, a seller-associated membership opportunity may be included or coordinated with the property transaction. Any proposed arrangement remains subject to the club’s application, board approval, current rules, timing and documentation.

Connection to the home
A qualifying property-specific opportunity may provide a more direct path than the ordinary membership queue, but it is not a guaranteed “line jump,” transfer, admission or approval. Buyers must verify the exact arrangement in writing with the club and the transaction documents before relying on it. Do not assume that every Estancia home sale includes this opportunity.

Property-specific opportunity / board approval

05

Mirabel Club

Mirabel, in northern Scottsdale.

Course
Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole, par-71 course in a desert residential setting.
Membership
Golf and Social equity memberships. The official source says property ownership is not required and describes memberships as transferable; confirm the club’s current eligibility and transfer procedures.

Connection to the home
Membership is separate from home ownership. A transferable club membership is not automatically attached to a Mirabel home. Obtain written confirmation of any specific membership transaction and required club approval.

Separate from home ownership

06

Pinnacle Peak Country Club

Pinnacle Peak Country Club area, in North Scottsdale.

Course
A walkable Dick Turner-designed 18-hole, par-72 course with tree-lined, parkland-style fairways rather than the usual desert-course character.
Membership
A private, member-owned club with limited, application-based membership. The club explicitly states that membership is not tied to property ownership.

Connection to the home
Membership is separate from home ownership. Buying in the surrounding neighborhood neither provides membership nor replaces the application process. Confirm current admission, transfer and resignation rules directly.

Separate from home ownership

07

Scottsdale National Golf Club

North Scottsdale; North Scottsdale National Drive.

Course
The Mine Shaft, The Other Course and The Bad Little Nine make up the club’s golf setting. The club states that no homes line its courses.
Membership
Invitation/sponsorship-only membership, completely separate from real estate. Current invitation, sponsorship, application and approval requirements must be confirmed directly with the club before proceeding.

Connection to the home
Buying a home nearby does not create, convey, transfer, accelerate or guarantee membership. A residential property transaction should not be represented as a route to membership or access; the club controls its own admission process.

Invitation / sponsorship only / separate from real estate

08

Silverleaf Club

Silverleaf, adjacent to DC Ranch in the McDowell Mountain foothills.

Course
Tom Weiskopf-designed desert course through the Silverleaf setting.
Membership
The club describes Golf and Clubhouse membership categories. With certain Silverleaf home sales, a seller-associated membership opportunity may be included or coordinated with the property transaction. Any proposed arrangement is subject to the club’s application, approval, current rules, timing and written documentation.

Connection to the home
This opportunity is not automatic, is not included with every home and is not a guaranteed transfer, admission or approval. Buyers must verify the exact arrangement in writing, directly and privately with the club and in the transaction documents, before relying on it.

Property-specific opportunity / club approval

09

Terravita Golf & Country Club

Terravita, near Scottsdale Road and Carefree Highway.

Course
An 18-hole desert course; the club credits the original design to Billy Casper and describes a Phil Smith-led renovation.
Membership
Terravita homeowners have required country-club participation. Golf membership is optional, with resident and non-resident golf memberships described by the club. Verify current categories and privileges.

Connection to the home
Required homeowner country-club obligations are distinct from optional golf membership. A Terravita home purchase should not be described as automatically including full golf privileges. Review HOA, country-club and golf obligations separately.

Ownership-linked / required

10

The Country Club at DC Ranch

DC Ranch, at the base of the McDowell Mountains.

Course
The club’s current official overview identifies a Tom Lehman championship course and describes a course-redesign project. Confirm the current project scope, closure schedule and impact on play directly with the club.
Membership
Golf Equity and Clubhouse categories are described publicly. The club expressly says membership is not tied to real estate and members do not need to own property in DC Ranch.

Connection to the home
Membership is separate from home ownership. A seller’s membership is not automatically part of the home sale. Verify any separate membership transaction, eligibility and approval with the club.

Separate from home ownership

11

Troon Country Club

Troon Village area, near Pinnacle Peak; North Windy Walk Drive.

Course
A Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish-designed 18-hole course with a dedicated practice complex. This is Troon Country Club, not the public/resort Troon North Golf Club.
Membership
The official source describes non-equity Premier Full Golf and Signature Sport/Social categories. Confirm current category definitions and the application process directly.

Connection to the home
Do not infer a club membership or transferable privilege from a Troon-area home. Confirm any specific opportunity with the club and listing documents; current availability must be verified directly.

12

Whisper Rock Golf Club

Whisper Rock, in northern Scottsdale.

Course
Two private courses: the Lower Course by Phil Mickelson and Gary Stephenson, and the Upper Course by Tom Fazio, as described in the developer’s official project overview.
Membership
The developer describes sponsorship and invitation only. The club’s public website directs visitors to member login rather than publishing current membership availability; verify the present process with the club.

Connection to the home
The developer expressly separates membership from ownership in Whisper Rock Estates. A home purchase does not substitute for sponsorship, invitation or club approval. Verify the club’s current terms and any claimed opportunity in listing documents.

Invitation / sponsorship

Separate from the list above

Just beyond North Scottsdale.

Desert Forest and Boulders sit outside the principal North Scottsdale group, so they are kept apart here.

Boulders is a private club membership in a resort-golf setting, not exclusively private courses. Understand how course access and membership work there before treating it like the others.

01

Desert Forest Golf Club

Carefree; North Mule Train Road.

Course
A Robert “Red” Lawrence desert course. The club emphasizes its natural desert setting and walking golf.
Membership
A private, member-owned golf club. Membership is by sponsored invitation; its official source describes an invitation from a regular member and a process for expressing interest.

Connection to the home
Nearby property ownership is not a substitute for the sponsored invitation process. Confirm current admission requirements directly; no membership opportunity should be inferred from a nearby home listing.

Invitation / sponsorship

02

Boulders Club

The Boulders, in the Carefree / north Scottsdale border area, near Cave Creek.

Course
Jay Morrish-designed North and South courses in a boulder-framed desert setting. This is private club membership within a resort-golf setting, not exclusively private courses: non-member tee times also exist.
Membership
The resort describes Premier, Social and Clubhouse membership categories, with category-specific golf privileges and designated member-course access. Verify present membership terms and how member and resort play are allocated.

Connection to the home
The public membership source does not establish that a particular home conveys membership. Contact the club and inspect listing documents for any property-specific opportunity, approval requirement and separate obligations.

Home and landscape

Why the setting matters more than the scorecard.

Orientation to the mountains, distance from the clubhouse, how a lot sits against open desert and what you hear and see from the terrace all shape daily life. Membership may be linked to ownership or governed by a separate process. Verify the model and obligations for each specific property and club.

A note on public alternatives.

Troon North, Grayhawk, TPC Scottsdale, Legend Trail and McDowell Mountain are public alternatives. They are outside the private club list above and are mentioned only so the comparison is complete.

Buyer due diligence

Before you commit to a home near a club.

  1. 01Club approval

Get the club’s written eligibility and approval requirements. Neither a seller, agent nor purchase contract can approve you on the club’s behalf.

  2. 02Transferability

Identify the precise membership category, who holds it and whether it can transfer. Ask about club consent, seller release and any conditions that could prevent a transfer.

  3. 03Initiation contribution

Request the current initiation or capital contribution schedule, transfer charges and payment terms directly from the club. Confirm what, if anything, is refundable.

  4. 04Dues and capital assessments

Separate recurring dues, minimums, operating charges and special or capital assessments. Determine responsibility for existing assessments and future obligations.

  5. 05Waitlists and interim privileges

Ask whether the applicable category has a waitlist and what privileges exist while waiting. Do not rely on a quoted wait estimate or assume golf is immediately available.

  6. 06Tee-time and practice access

Check booking windows, seasonal restrictions, course rotation, walking/cart policies, practice access and how actual play fits the time you spend in Arizona.

  7. 07Guest and family rules

Confirm accompanied guest limits, household privileges, applicable fees and category-specific restrictions directly with the club rather than assuming all privileges extend to everyone.

  8. 08Renovation and closure plans

Request current course and clubhouse renovation plans, anticipated closures, reciprocal arrangements and how projects are funded.

  9. 09Resignation and refund terms

Read the governing documents for resignation notices, resale queues, equity redemption or refund provisions and continuing dues obligations after resignation.

  10. 10HOA versus club obligations

Review community assessments, country-club participation and golf membership separately. Identify which obligations follow title and which belong to a separate club agreement.

  11. 11Timing relative to escrow

Coordinate application review, approval, contingencies, deposits, transfer documents and closing with the club and your transaction advisers. Resolve membership conditions before funds become non-refundable.

Reviewed October 2026. Verify all details directly with each club. A home purchase does not universally confer membership: ownership-linked communities have specific obligations, while other clubs follow separate processes. Club approval and applicable documents govern. This page quotes no fees, rankings or current membership availability.
